Welcome to National Centre for Disaster Mitigation & Management
About the Centre

National Centre for Disaster Mitigation and Management is an Academic & Research Center, established by the Board of Governors (27th Meeting of the Board of Governors, 7 October 2013) as per the NITSER Act, and First Statute of the National Institute of Technologies with a mandate to work in the domain of Earthquake Safety of the Built Environment.

The Activities of the Center Include Academics, Research and Outreach. The Centre offers  Master’s degree Program (M. Tech. in Earthquake Engineering) and Doctoral degree Program (Ph. D. in various specializations of Earthquake Engineering).

The Centre hosts the National Earthquake Testing Facility (NETF), which is a unique and one of the largest testing laboratories in the country, for Full-Scale Testing of Buildings, Bridge Girders, Bridge Piers, Bridge Bearing and Base Isolation devices, etc. under Quasi-static cyclic and Pseudo-dynamic loading. Besides that, there is a basic Structural Dynamics Laboratory with microprocessor-controlled electrodynamics shaker with 400 kgf force rating with 150 kg payload, various shaking instruments and different type of building models meant for conceptual understanding of structural behaviour.

The Centre assists Bureau of Indian Standards, Civil Engineering Division, Earthquake Engineering Section (BIS: CED-39) for Standards Development in the domain of earthquake engineering. Besides that, the Centre has a National Advisory Committee to advise on various priority matters of national importance.
