Services

Library Membership:

Students, Teachers, Research Scholars and Staff of the Institute are admitted as members of the library. Library membership forms can be obtained and submitted at the circulation counter in the library. The number of books that may be borrowed by each category of members and the period of loan is as under:

Book Borrowing Rules:
  1. Books can be issued only against RFID-Card issued by the Institute to the borrowers. The RFID-Card is non-transferable and its loss should be immediately reported to the library.
  2. Books issued will not be accepted back on the same day.
  3. The Library member is responsible for any book issued against his/her RFID card, as per the library record.
  4. No borrowing facility is available to the visitors. Visitor or guest member from academic or research institute is allowed to use the library for a short period of time (for Reference only) with the prior permission from the Competent authority/Librarian. The Guest member is required to produce proof of identification.
  5. The borrower should check the fitness of the document before getting it issued. Any discrepancy should be brought to the notice of the library staff at the Circulation Counter who will put necessary remarks on the document before issuing. The borrower will be held responsible for any defect/damage found at the time of return of the document, if not recorded on it earlier, and will be liable to pay the penalty as decided by the competent authority/Librarian.
  6. The member would satisfy himself/herself before leaving the issue counter as to whether the book is in good condition or not otherwise he may be held responsible.
  7. No book shall be issued to loan, which Librarian feels is not in a condition to be safely handled by the borrower.
  8. Library members are advised not to issue Books to others on their names.
  9. The library members should check the book thoroughly for missing pages, chapters, pictures etc., while borrowing the book.
  10. A borrower is responsible for the safe custody and return of the documents borrowed from the Library. Sending reminders to defaulters is not obligatory on the part of the Library.
  11. Any book issued may be recalled by the Library before the due date of return without assigning any reason and the borrower has to abide by the decision.
  12. Books issued should not be brought to the library except for check-in or renewal.
  13. All the library members who want to return the books issued on their names are advised to wait until the books are shown as cancelled against their names.
  14. Library members (Students, Faculty and staff etc) going on long leave, deputation, study leave, or extraordinary leave will have to return all borrowed materials before leaving the Institute.
Book Renewal Rules:
  1. Members can renew the books borrowed by them if the same books are not claimed by any other user. Book can be renewed by bringing them to the Library Circulation Counter.
  2. For library members, Books will be reissued/renewed two times only for period of 21 days if there are no claims.
  3. Library members can get the book(s) reissued on or before the due date by intimating the Library. Overdue books will not be reissued.

Reference Service:

Reference service will be provided in person, by telephone, by e-mail directly from the library. It helps users to fulfill their information needs.

Current Awareness Service:

This service provides the current information about the acquisition/updates/contents of library like:

  1. New Subscribed Database /E Resources
  2. New Arrivals of Books in library
  3. List of newspaper/ magazine etc.

Document delivery Service:

Central Library arranges to provide e- documents like papers from journals, conference proceedings, reports etc. that are not available in MNIT library collection. This service is provided to all library users for academic and research purpose only. Please drop your request to library@mnit.ac.in

Library Orientation Programe:

Central Library organizes Library Orientation Programme for the new entrants in the beginning of the academic year. The aim of this programme is to make the new members more familiar with the library resources, services and rules so that they can avail library services up to a great extent. Library also offers different training programme and workshops time to time.
