Programme Description

The two-year full-time MBA program is the flagship program of the institute. The program aims to develop socially and ethically oriented management professionals to face changes in modern business organizations. With this end in view, the program is designed to include courses of study, seminars, and projects through which a student develops knowledge, skills, and attitude to excel in business and management.

Aims and Objectives

The primary objectives of the MBA program offered are:

  1.  To impart skills and knowledge to demonstrate the ability to perform as able management professionals.
  2.  To develop students into future leaders with the ability to tackle the challenges of the modern global business environment.
  3.  To develop future management leaders sensitive to social development and have an eye for opportunities for growth from the international perspective.
Programme Highlights

The institute believes that self-learning is the best means of learning, especially at the post-graduation level, and accordingly, faculty should act as facilitators more than teachers. Teaching is heavily oriented toward case studies, presentations, and assignments. A variety of seminars are organized by faculty and students during the academic session. Apart from these sessions, the students are actively involved in participating in and conducting several management events; some of the events include:

  1.  Case study competitions
  2.  Business Quiz
  3.  Entrepreneurship development session
  4.  Panel discussions
  5.  Group discussions & workshops

Further, guest lectures, workshops, conferences, and short-term courses on management topics are regularly organized.
Overall, the program combines state-of-the-art teaching and evaluation methodologies. The faculty members continuously upgrade their knowledge and skills and bring contemporary, practical knowledge to the classrooms. The infrastructure is well-built to meet the requirements of a world-class business school. The students are exposed to practical and industry problems through case studies, live projects, guest lectures, assignments, field visits, internships, etc. Further, international collaborations are encouraged. The Central placement office provides full support for internships and placements.

Sanctioned Intake & Reservation

The total sanctioned annual intake for the MBA program is 75, with reservations for various categories as per Government of India policy. The seat matrix for the total sanctioned intake is as follows:

Selection Process
MBA Admissions

A call for MBA admission is issued in February every year.
Annual intake: 75 (with provision for reservations as per Govt. of India norms)
Minimum eligibility criteria: Applicant must have a valid 03-years or 04-year bachelor's degree from a recognized institute or university with a CGPA not below 6.5 on the 10-point scale (60% marks, only where CGPA is not awarded) with relaxation for SC/ST implying a minimum of 6.0 on the 10-point scale (55% marks, only where CGPA is not awarded).

Candidates who have appeared in the final examination of their bachelor's degree programs mentioned above and have completed all other formalities for the award of their graduation degree and awaiting their final results are eligible to apply.
Additional minimum requirement: To be eligible to participate in the selection process, apart from fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the MBA program, the applicant should have a valid test score obtained in any of the following management admission tests*:

FAQs

1. Can final-year graduation students apply?
Ans. Candidates, who have appeared in the final examination of their graduate programs and are awaiting their final results, are eligible to apply. Such candidates will have to furnish a certificate from their Institute/University per the format provided in Annexure 2 of the Information brochure.
 
2. How to convert CGPA into percentage?
Ans. The CGPA to Percentage conversion formula is as follows:
On a 10-point scale,
Equivalent %age = [(CGPA – 0.5)/10] X 100%
On an x-point scale,
Equivalent %age = [(CGPA – 5% of x)/x] X 100%
 
3. Is there any reservation for MC (Minority Community)/SC/ST/OBC/EWS category candidates?
Ans. The total sanctioned annual intake for the MBA program is 79, with reservations for various categories prescribed by the Government of India. The seat matrix for the total sanctioned intake is as below:

4. What are the criteria for computation of Comprehensive Score for selection?
Ans. Please refer to the Annexure 1 of the Information Brochure for Comprehensive Score Calculation.
 
5. Which entrance exam scorecards are considered for meeting the eligibility for admission?
Ans. To be eligible to participate in the selection process, apart from fulfilling the minimum eligibility criteria for admission to the MBA program, the applicant should have a valid test score obtained in any of the following management admission tests: CAT, GMAT, XAT, CMAT, and MAT. 6. What is the minimum percentile required for admission and the criteria for preparing the merit list and selection procedure at MNIT DMS?
Ans. Admission to the MBA program would be based on a merit list prepared by the Department of Management Studies and will be made available on the website of the Institute. The candidates are strongly advised to frequently visit the institute website for updates in this regard. For comprehensive score criteria, refer to Annexure 1 of the brochure.
 
7. What are the rules for refunding fees in case of cancellation of admission?
Ans. The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances. All applicants must make sure that they meet all eligibility requirements before applying. In case of cancellation of admission, full fees submitted for the first semester shall be refunded after deducting processing charges. This is applicable only till the last date of cancellation of admission.

10. Is hostel facility available for students?
Ans. Limited accommodation is available on campus on first cum first serve basis
 
11. What are the specializations offered?
Ans. The Department currently offers specializations (subject to a minimum number of students opting for the specialization) in the areas of marketing, finance, operations management, human resource management, business analytics, and general management & strategy
 
12. Where can I find information about internships and placements at DMS, MNIT?
Ans. Placements and Internship opportunities are provided to the students through the centralized Training & Placement cell of the institute. 13. What is the minimum score needed in CAT to qualify?
Ans. For shortlisting candidates for the GD and PI, a score is computed for each candidate (as per the approved Comprehensive Selection Criteria attached in Annexure 1), based upon which a merit list is prepared for the selection of the candidates for admission to the MBA program.
 
14. What will be the procedure to fill the vacant seats if any are left after the second waiting list? Will there be a special round?
Ans. If there are vacant seats after the second waiting list, the institute may conduct a special round subject to the approval of the competent authority.
 
15. Will a student be considered for admission outside the waiting list in case seats are left?
Ans. No student outside the waiting list will be considered for admission.
 
16. In case I leave my seat on the first list and then come back to claim it later, can I claim the seat again?
Ans. If any student who has been offered admission fails to deposit fees by the last date, he or she will not be considered for admission in any subsequent list in the admission process of that particular year.
 
17. In case I get a seat in some other NIT for MBA, will my money be transferred to the other NIT?
Ans. Currently, there is no such provision.
