Brief Research Profile

I have research interest in the fields of heat transfer enhancement, computational fluid dynamics and Numerical modelling and simulation of metal additive manufacturing. My professional career in the field of CFD spans for more than a decade, involving four and a half years of scientific research at Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), Mumbai and another five and a half years at TU-Darmstadt, Germany. During my scientific tenure at BARC, I worked on multiple projects related to design and analysis of process heat transfer equipment. I was a member of the CEA-DAE committee on development and validation of thermal hydraulic codes. In the scope of my PhD dissertation, I have developed thermal models to study heat transfer at different length scales in the granular powder bed irradiated by laser source. This study helped identifying dominant phenomena during the laser melting/sintering process and predicting process window of operating parameters for a given powder material. It is also relevant to model new material system for selective laser melting/sintering or to predict its behaviour under laser sintering conditions. Currently I am focused on utilizing flow induced vibrations for heat transfer enhancement and developing an interactive learning material for CFD using JUPYTER notebook.
