Mechanical Engineering Students Won 1st Position in 3DStudentDesign National Round 23/01/2015 To 23/01/2015

Designers not only make the world more and more beautiful but well designed systems also solve the day today problems of the society. Fourth edition of the 3D Student Design Challenge-Powered by Autodesk®-The Future is Now-for its Manufacturing category had the theme "PUBLICALLY SHARED MOBILITY BIKE". The competition had many requirements like comfortable mode of transport, public sharing system, modularity, safety and elegant appearance.
Region wise top nine teams were asked to present in New Delhi, Bangalore and Mumbai out of thousands of designs submitted at the competition's portal www.3dstudentdesign.com. The jury consisted members from Industry, Academia and Design Tools. First three teams of each region participated to fight for national winner in the Grand Finale which was held on 23rd Jan 2015 at Hotel The Leela, Mumbai. Out of the total nine teams, Team GRAVIDA of MNIT Jaipur consisting of Devang Darode, Mandeep Singh Kapoor and Mitesh Rajput won first position for their innovative designs of their human powered publically shared bikes. Apart from each student winning a Gold Medal, Motor Bike, Apple Ipad Mini and Certificates this team will represent India internationally in the Mechanical Design Category in the most awaited event "Autodesk Panorama-2015" to be held from 9th to 13th March, 2015 in Tongji University at Shanghai, China.
Academic council member of the competition and faculty of mechanical engineering in MNIT Jaipur Dr. Harlal Singh Mali noted that this win by the students has really put the flag of MNIT Jaipur high and a dream came true for him since his association with the competition from the years 2012 where the best of the institutes are compete to represent India in the coveted event. The winning design has many firsts like soft wheels for quality suspensions during bumpy roads; dual frame for strength, light weight & laptop protection; horizontal & vertical seat adjustments for the seat for various human body sizes; basket and handle tilting mechanism for space efficiency during parking; solar battery charging kiosks during parking; three gears chain power transmission; GPS tracked and secured tracking and locking cum payment system, multiple variants of bike to suit the budget of users etc. and is highly suitable as "PUBLICALLY SHARED MOBILITY BIKE" for congested city traffic as outlined in the design brief of the competition. If implemented this system of publically shared bikes can be implemented in campuses like MNIT Jaipur, Walled City of Jaipur and Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary on pilot basis.
