Brief report of the STC on Analysis and Applications 10/11/2014 To 14/11/2014

Department of Mathematics, Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur in collaboration with National Institute of Technical training and Research, Chandigarh organized a "Short Term Course on analysis and Applications" STCAA-2014 during November 10-14, 2014.
STCAA was arranged keeping in mind the need of analysis in different fields of mathematics and sciences. The chief guest of the occasion was Dr. Amita Gill, Director, Department of Science and Technology, Rajasthan. The programme started with the lighting of the lamp and invoking the blessings of Goddess Saraswati. The guests were welcomed by presenting bouquet to them. Dr. Rashmi Jain, Coordinator STCAA welcomed the guests and delegates by her welcome address. She also mentioned about the objective and utility of the workshop. Dr. Vatsala Mathur, HOD, Mathematics told about the department and its courses and activities. The Chief guest put light upon various funding for holding events and grants that are available to the students for research She also mentioned about the importance of mathematics. Dr. Ritu Agarwal, Coordinator STCAA proposed vote of thanks to the invited guests, participants and volunteers. The inauguration was followed by keynote lecture on "Crypt Analysis" by Prof. R.K.Sharma, IIT Delhi.
The brilliant speakers from several IITs, NITs, and Universities of State were invited. Prof. A.P. Mehra from IIT, Delhi spoke on Convex Functions and optimization. She told the importance of analytical methods in optimization. Prof. Mridula Garg, Retired Professor from University of Rajasthan gave her talk on 'Analytic functions and analytic continuation'. Dr. Manjul Gupta from IIT Kanpur covered the topic 'Positive operators on Cones'. Prof. K.C Jain from MNIT, Jaipur established students' grip on Hypothesis Testing. Dr. Ritu Agarwal from MNIT Jaipur discussed 'Types of spaces and their properties', Dr. V. G. Gupta from University of Rajasthan discussed 'The concepts of Topology'. Prof. I.K.Rana from IIT Mumbai made students aware of the interesting 'Integration from Antiquity to Riemann and beyond ', 'Geometry and analysis' and ' The concept of infinity and limits '. They all tried their best to put some brilliant ideas of research and explained the confusing concepts with ease, that every attendee there was in whole satisfaction. The Speaker also explained the relevance of these topics in various fields.
Prof. Rashmi Jain and Dr. Ritu Agarwal, Coordinators, STCAA, stood on their feet for 5 days making sure that students get the best of knowledge.
The valedictory function as graced by Prof. I.K.Rana, IIT Mumbai. Certificates of Participation were awarded to students, while the speakers were presented with mementoes of regard after every lecture. More than 50 participants consisting teachers, Professors, Research Scholars and PG students from various cities and institutions participated in the event.
At the end of the STC, the participants were asked to fill a feedback form. More than 90% attendees reported to be satisfied in the programme and hoped that such courses are organized on regular basis in near future.
