An interactive session on "Study Abroad" by Mr. Nikhil Gupta, 1995 batch alumnus of Metallurgy Engineering, Associate Professor, New York University was held on 9th Oct. 2014. He was welcomed by Dr. Pawan Kalla, Faculty coordinator, ALCOM. The session started with a brief introduction of the alumnus, which in itself was an encouragement for us. It helped young GRE, GMAT aspirants clear their myths and doubts regarding selection criteria to pursue higher education abroad. Direct questionnaire between sir and student that lasted for about two hours was attended by more than 100 curious minds. He stressed on students being foresighted, for which he said we should have plan 5 years goals, which we should be achieved in 3 years time, and 10 year goals, which should be tried to achieve in 7 years. Mentoring by alumni can be an impetus on our journey to be technocrats. One to one talk covered important aspects as foreign university scholarships, role of resume and letter of recommendation and Statement of Purpose format. He also apprised us of the importance of a good academic record, which speaks largely of a student's focus. One can switch their stream during M-tech or MS however keen interest and research background is a must. He concluded the session by saying that "Every day of your life is important because your days are your life in miniature". Session ended with memento presentation by Shubham Goyal, 4th year, Civil Engineering.
