MNIT Jaipur Help Community through Improving their systems 01/01/2014 To 25/06/2014

At Barefoot College http://www.barefootcollege.org/, a group of illiterate women manufacture sanitary napkins with full commercial viability by using a set of die-punch system and some supporting equipment since many years. The video showing rectangular shape sanitary pad is available at http://vimeo.com/36687127.
They had been trying hard to convert these systems for the new and improved product type but failed in previous attempts given the constraint such as, power availability, operator skill, conventional thinking, product cost and investments needed.
A request was made to Dr. Harlal Singh Mali, Assistant Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering on 28th Jan 2014, and the same was taken up in a time bound manner through a M-Tech student, Mr. Pawan Sahoo.
The problem required some innovative thinking along with following the steps of design & development of tools i.e. study the system, iterative designing, rapid prototyping, material selection, part-programming, installation and testing all within the constraints of low cost, limited time, low power consumption, ease of operation and high productivity. The improved system is in production at full swing.
