Short term course on 'Mathematical Methods and its Applications in Engineering and Sciences' 29/10/2012 To 03/11/2012

The Department of Mathematics organized a six day short term course on the topic 'Mathematical Methods and its Applications in Engineering and Sciences' from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3, 2012 under the Golden Jubilee celebration of MNIT Jaipur.
The Patron of the course was Prof. I.K. Bhat, the Director of MNIT Jaipur. The short term course was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Prof. B.D. Sharma Professor of Mathematics in JIIT, Noida, U.P. He has also been a Professor in a number of different universities in U.S.A. and was also the president of Hindu University of America. The Guest of Honour was Prof. S.L Soni, Chairman MNIT Golden Jubilee Year Celebrations that is going from September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013.
The speakers were called from Industries, IITs, Rajasthan University and other reputed Universities. This included Mr. D.K. Daukia, Head of Raw Material Sourcing from JK Paper Ltd; Prof. Maithili Sharan, Head Centre of Atmospheric Sciences IIT Delhi; Prof. M.K. Banerjee, Steel Chair Professor in the Department of Metallurgical and Material Engineering MNIT Jaipur, a former Director of BIT Deoghar, Secretary Science and Technology Department Gowb etc. ; Prof. D.S Hooda from JIET, Guna M.P; Prof. Raj Bali and Prof. R. N. Jat, Professors at Rajasthan University to name a few. Some of the Professors of MNIT Jaipur were kind enough to deliver lectures in the short term course.
The lectures were delivered on different topics of Applied Mathematics and their relevance was established in the Engineering courses, other fields of Science and specially our daily life. The speakers emphasized the fact that an improper use of a mathematical tool or a mistake in calculations can lead to disastrous results in breaking bridges etc. The speakers highlighted the ways one can fight with natural disasters using Mathematics, along with increasing the safety and comfort of our lives. Lectures were delivered on a useful tool Matlab and labs were conducted on it (each participant had a computer for hands on learning). The lectures and lab on Matlab were very well received by the participants.
The valedictory session was graced by Prof. I.K. Bhat, Director MNIT Jaipur and Prof. Maithili Sharan was the guest of Honour for the valedictory function. There were 50 participants in the course. Most of them were teachers in Mathematics or Engineering subjects from different Institutes. There were some research scholars, M.Sc. and M. Tech. students who also participated in the course.
At the end of the six day short term course, the participants were asked to fill out a feed-back form (without their name written on them). More than 95% appreciated the course and hoped that such a course will be organized again by the department in near future. Most of the participants wanted that a short term course purely on Mat lab must be organized in Jan. 2013 so that they may be able to attend it.
The participants arrived not only from different cities of Rajasthan but also from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Over all the course was a success and participants appreciated the course, the Mat lab and the material provided to them through different lectures of the experts. In nutshell, the STC met all its objectives and goals successfully.
