Report of Invited Talk on Number Thoery 04/08/2017 To 04/08/2017

Department of Mathematics, MNIT Jaipur organized two sessions of invited talk on Number Theory on August 04, 2017. This event was coordinated by Dr. Rashmi Jain and Dr. Ritu Agarwal. The lectures were delivered by Dr. Kalyan Chakraborty, Professor in the department of Mathematics at Harishchandra Research Institute, Allahabad, India.
First session was about "Primes and more". Prof. Chakraborty mentioned that Prime numbers are the building blocks of the number universe and has fascinated many Mathematicians for ages. He presented some beautiful results related to prime numbers and also for some other interesting numbers, some conjectures and their current status.
The second session was on "Cryptography : Science of secret codes and information security", which is that branch of science where mathematics meets computer science to provide us privacy and information security. This talk was an introduction to this branch. Beginning from the history he talked about some basic protocols in layman's terms. He also discussed the applications of the prime numbers in cryptography.
The students and faculty members of MNIT Jaipur participated in the event. This was a great learning experience to know about number theory and its applications. The students get to know about unsolved problems and research opportunities available in this field.
