Department of Mathematics, MNIT Jaipur organized two sessions of invited talk on "Introduction to hyperbolic geometry" on October 07, 2016. This event was coordinated by Dr. Rashmi Jain and Dr. Ritu Agarwal. The lectures were delivered by Dr. Kishnendu Gongopadhyay, Associate professor in the department of Mathematics at The Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISER) Mohali, Punjab.
He spoke about hyperbolic geometry is a non-Euclidean geometry. He told the postulates of geometry and fifth postulate, in particular, which leads to the hyperbolic geometry. He discussed two most famous models in hyperbolic geometry, called the Poincare Upper-half space and the Poincare Disk models of the hyperbolic space.
The students and faculty members of MNIT Jaipur participated in the event. This was a great learning experience to know about another form of geometry of importance. The students get to know about unsolved problems and research opportunities available in this field.
