National Science Day is celebrated every year to spread a message about the Importance of science in the daily life of the people, to display all the activities, efforts and achievements in the field of science for human welfare. It is one of the main science functions of India. It is also celebrated to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by Nobel laureate Shri C.V. Raman. The major idea of the celebration is to discuss all the issues and implement new technologies for the development in the field of science and to give an opportunity to the scientifically minded citizens in the country and to encourage the people as well as popularize the Science and Technology. The theme for the year 2018 is " Science and Technology for a sustainable future." As a part of National Science Day, UBA as a part of helping the children of the five adopted villages getting exposure towards science and technology brought the students studying in the schools of the villages for a 3-day affair from 26th February to 28th February, in which the students, along with being a part of the National Science Day also got the opportunity to stay in MNIT and explore the college.
Day one was started with the welcome ceremony of respected dignitaries Prof. C.V.R. Murty (Director, IIT Jodhpur), Prof. T.K.Dutta (IIT Delhi), Dr. Sudhir K. Mishra (CMD, Brahmos) by organizing committee of the National Science Day 2018 in which Prof. Udaykumar R. Yaragatti (Director, MNIT Jaipur) was appointed as the chairman. At the beginning of the event Prof. C.V.R. Murty (Director, IIT Jodhpur), Prof. T.K.Dutta (IIT Delhi) & Dr. Sudhir K. Mishra (CMD, Brahmos) talked about the basic science and technology with the basic advancement of Indian science. In the afternoon session scientific explanation of Myths & miracles was explained to the students with a clear involvement of science. Roles of various Indian scientists were played by students in the form of a story and drama. Science quiz and painting competition was organized for village students. All the students of various schools and colleges from all over Rajasthan participated in a technical exhibition of various science projects. Various labs like a computer lab, Mechanical workshop were visited by the village students so that they can learn the practical science and technologies which are in current use. In the evening session, a small talk was conducted about career opportunity in various fields. Day one then ended with some good cultural performances by various students.
The second day started with even more enthusiasm after an exciting first day. In the morning, the students participated as active spectators in the address by various speakers which included our agricultural minister as well. The day was then followed by dance presentation by various zealous students. After all the participation, students were taken for lunch, in which girls were taken to Gargi Hostel while boys were taken to the Aurobindo Hostel. After the lunch, it was time for some drawing competition which was organised for the students. All the stationary was provided to them while they had to exhibit their talent and thinking ability through their drawings. There was no theme to the competition so the students were free to think on their own. The event was being held at Abdul Kalam Hall in the afternoon under the supervision of the UBA team. In order to educate the students about sanitation, it was well thought of doing so through the medium of a movie in order to keep them entertained while at the same time imparting the importance of sanitation. This was done after the drawing competition through the movie 'Toilet - Ek Prem Katha' in VLTC - room no. 205.After the movie the students participated in the cultural event of National Science Day.
On the third day, students were taken to various labs in the morning at 9:30am such as computer lab, mechanical workshop and chemistry lab to give them an insight into the engineering world, with a hope to inspire them about science and technology. It was then followed by the prize distribution ceremony for the winners of painting competition which was also attended by Dean Student Welfare of MNIT, Dr. Dilip Sharma and our institute coordinator, Dr. Namita Mittal along with all the faculty coordinators of all the villages. The students with innovative thinking and drawing skills were then recognized and awarded by the dignitaries. While students were inspired and enjoyed their stay in MNIT, one of the teachers from Burthal village was overwhelmed by the initiative taken by the UBA team and he presented the same in his speech in the same event. This event was followed by a quiz competition for the students of class 9th - 12th while fun activities were organized for students of class 6th-8th which included dancing and singing. After the prize distribution, students were taken for lunch, which was then followed by prize distribution to the winners of the quiz competition. Then came the time for closing ceremony of the event and bidding farewell to the students of the villages in the evening.
