Ans. It was founded in 1963 as Malaviya Regional Engineering College and upgraded to National Institute of Technology on June 26, 2002.

25. Are there any standing instructions for students of M.N.I.T.?
Ans. YES. You are expected to be familiar with the Standing Instructions as well as various rules and regulations pertaining to UG/PG and PhD programs. Most of these are available at the Institute Web Site <www.mnit.ac.in>
26. Is ragging permitted in MNIT?
Ans. No. Ragging is strictly prohibited and it is a CRIMINAL OFFENCE. Not even so called introduction. Any body found in indulging in ragging may be expelled from the Institute.
27. In what circumstances, change of hostel or change of room within the same hostel is permitted? What is the procedure?
Ans. A student can change hostel or change a room within the same hostel, by applying to the Dean Student Welfare through hostel warden. Dean will grant the permission only if the reasons of change are valid.
28. If I want to surrender hostel room during semester, what should I do?
Ans. You can do it any time by applying to the Dean Student Affairs through hostel warden with valid reason.
29. Can I keep a desert cooler/room heater in hostel room on some extra payment?
Ans. No. This is not permitted due to water shortage and electricity security reasons.
30. Can a brother/sister of a student stay with him/her for 1-2 days in hostel room?
Ans. No.
31. Is the guest house facility available for my parents/relatives? If yes how the booking can be done?
Ans. Yes, it is available. For booking please contact officer in charge guest house.
32. Do we get concession for traveling? How the concession facility can be availed?
Ans. The students get concession for traveling during vacation. The concession forms for railways / roadways / air can be obtained from the office of Dean of Student Affairs.
33. Can I go home without informing warden/HOD ?
Ans. No. You must seek prior approval from your faculty / program advisor as well as Warden/Dean of Students Welfare with valid reasons.
34. I am not satisfied with the quality of food of the mess. What should I do?
Ans. The mess is managed and run by the students through MNIT Mess Council and Mess Committees of each hostel. The menu is decided by each mess committee after obtaining the views of the hostel inmates. Please contact the committee members / Warden/ Dean of Students.
35. I feel that the water cooler in my hostel has not been cleaned for long and the water appears to be infected. What should I do ?
Ans. Please contact the Warden/Asst. Warden/ Dean of Students.
36. There is a problem with the Cable Connection in the common room of my hostel. Whom should I contact?
Ans. Please contact Warden/Asst Warden/Dean of Students.
37. What are Attendance rules?
Ans. A student must have a minimum attendance of seventy five percent of the total number of classes including lectures, tutorials and practical held in a course in order to be eligible to appear in the End-Term Examination for that course. A student should meet the above attendance requirement irrespective of the number of days he/she is on medical and /or other leave for any reason whatsoever. Those students whose attendance is less than 75% shall not be allowed to appear in the End-Term Examination of that course and shall be awarded F grade irrespective of their performance in Class Work (CW) / Mid-Term Examination (MTE), etc.
38. In case somebody falls ill, what should he/she do?
Ans. There is a Dispensary in the Institute managed by 4 part time doctors including one lady doctor and one homeopathy. In case of emergency, the patient can be shifted to any reputed nearby hospital. Please contact the Warden / Asst. Warden / Dean of Students for shifting a student to a hospital.
In case of an emergency, please contact the Care Taker to provide you Institution Car to shift the patient to a hospital. In case, no car / driver is available, please call an Ambulance or Wireless Taxi. Immediately inform the Warden / Asst. warden. The Institute will reimburse for the ambulance / taxi on the production of proper receipts.
39. Does MNIT offer distance learning programs?
Ans. No.
