The Institute is led by the Director under the guidance of the Chairman and the Board of Governors.
The Institute, being an autonomous Institution, is administered by Board of Governors, which consists of
Chairman (appointed by MHRD, Govt. of India)
one nominee of the State Government
one nominee of MHRD
Director of the Indian Institute of Technology in the region or his nominee
A nominee of the All India Council for Technical Education
Two Industrialist/Technologists (non-official representatives) of the region to be nominated by the Central Government
A nominee of University Grants Commission
Two representatives of the faculty of the College to be nominated by the Chairman and
Head of another technical institution in the region or an eminent technologist nominated by the Central Government
An alumnus of the Institute from among the alumni in education/industry to be nominated by Board of Governors
Director of the Institute as Ex-officio member Secretary.
The students are given opportunity to administer their own affairs affecting the co-curricular residential and recreational ctivities through various committees, such as Institute Canteen Committee students’ Aid and Welfare committee, Hostels and Mess committee etc.

The Registrar is the custodian of the seal of MNIT, and all records.
There are 14 Academic departments each led by a Head.
